Thailand
Thailand has been the world’s leading rice exporter for the last 10 years. However, the Thai government implemented a new rice-pledging policy in October 2011, designed to support the country’s farmers by purchasing paddy from them at a minimum designated price. This has seen Thai exports decrease significantly and the country fell to the world’s third largest exporter of rice in 2011-12.
A wide selection of rice varieties are grown in Thailand, including 100% Grade B Long Grain White, Pathumthani Fragrant and Hom Mali.
